Website Technology vs Search Engine Optimization

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Does the way your website is put together affect how many people visit your site?

Of course it does. That’s what having a good website is all about. Did you know, though, that some website design technology can improve search engine results all by itself?

An example is the hot new website technology called Silverlight. While Adobe’s Flash is installed on more machines so it is easier for more consumers to see your Flash images, the compressed format does not allow it to be searchable by the search engines. The latest version is now starting to be indexed by Google. Silverlight textual content, on the other hand, is designed to be indexable and searchable by all the search engines. This means that keywords can be salted into your Silverlight text as well as throughout your website; resulting in higher Google and Yahoo rankings, and more visitors, without spending a penny on SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

Flash vs Silverlight

Selecting the right technology for rich Internet applications is often critical, and choosing between Flash and Silverlight depends entirely on your requirements. If you expect that some of your users will be on Linux or Solaris, then you should go with Flash. If you want your website to be indexed by search engines, then Silverlight may be better. On the other hand, the latest version of Flash supports 3D rendering, which Silverlight does not.

Fortunately, our team at Caspian Services (a Glendale Website Design company) are experts at listening and understanding your unique needs and circumstances. We take great care to create the perfect website for you. If fact, we even offer a complimentary website analysis for those who are not getting as many website visitors as they would like and want to know why. Contact us today for your FREE analysis.

How to increase your open rates when sending out a newsletter

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

We have been using and recommending iContact for your email newsletter management for almost 3 years now. Start a newsletter for your web site or business today with iContact. Send personalized text or HTML messages, RSS feeds, and surveys from any computer, and automatically keep track of your subscriptions. Broadcast your message to all subscribers with one click.

But how do you get your subscribers to actually OPEN your emails? Here are some quick tips to increase your open rates when sending out a newsletter:
  1. Changing up your subject line to include the senders name – make it personal – can help with open rates.
  2. Sending consistently (same day of every week or same day of every month) allows your readers to know when to expect your next newsletter.  Because people are expecting it, they’ll want to open the newsletter and see what information you’re sending.
  3. Make sure your newsletter focuses on the important news at the top or perhaps a teaser to make them read further.
  4. Keep your newsletters short and have links to articles you want your customers to read.  If they’re interested in the information, they’ll click on the link.  If not, they can continue reading to find the article that relates to them the most.
One other thing to remember is that if some of your readers are opening the newsletter on their Smartphone and may not be displaying images.  If they are not displaying images, their open will not count toward your open rate.

These are quick and easy items to implement to increase your newsletter open rate.
